Briefs of anti-US and anti-war struggle

 

Implementation of the June 15 joint declaration 

 

Aug. 4- The Reunification Solidarity called a press conference in front of the government building complex to denounce the south Korean authorities for hamstring the course of implementing the June 15 joint declaration.

Aug. 5- The Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration issued an appeal titled “Let us turn out in the struggle for defending the June 15 joint declaration and against US and conservative forces.”

Aug. 6- The Gwangju-South Jeolla Provincial Coalition under the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification issued a statement demanding the south Korean authorities implement the inter-Korean declaration.

Aug.7- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils issued a statement demanding the authorities stop suppressing the pro-reunification patriotic forces and choose genuine national cooperation.

-The Reunification Solidarity sponsored a rally in front of Gwanghwamun in Seoul to oppose the US moves for a war on the Korean Peninsula and denounce the government for tarnishing the June 15 joint declaration.

Aug.10- An event for reunification of the Gwangju-South Jeolla Provincial Student was held at the Jeonam National University.

Aug.14- The Reunification Solidarity composed of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions including more than 60 civic organizations held an anti-war peace and independent reunification rally at a park of Gwanghwamun, Seoul, with participation of more than 5,000 people.

Aug.15- A meeting of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification for abolition of the National Security Law and upsurge of the all-nation reunification movement was held at Yonsei University, Seoul.

- August 15 rally for national reunification was held at an open theater of Yonsei University. Published there was a joint declaration of the rally marking the 59^th anniversary of the Liberation Day that agreed by the south, north and abroad.  

  

 

Opposition to troop dispatch to Iraq

Aug.3- The Gangwon Provincial Federation of University Student Councils released a statement to vehemently denounce the authorities’ dispatch of troops to Iraq.

Aug.4- The Reunification Youth, the Supporters’ Association of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification, issued a statement calling upon all the youth and students to turn out in the struggle for checking the troop dispatch and realization of national cooperation.    

Aug.5- Members of the Reunification Vanguard of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of the Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification and the Patriotic Student Solidarity went into a hunger strike for checking the troop dispatch at a park in Seoul.

 

 

Withdrawal of military bases in south Korea 

 

Aug. 8- A rally against the transfer and expansion of the US military base to Pyeongtaek and for a stop of the nuclear war plot on the Korean Peninsula and relocation of the US forces and the withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea was held in Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province under the co-sponsorship of the Reunification Solidarity, the Pyeongtaek Measure Committee against Expansion of US Military Base and the 2004 Reunification Vanguard for the Withdrawal of Decision on Troop Dispatch to Iraq and National Cooperation against the US.

Aug.14- More than 2,000 members of the Reunification Solidarity staged a human-belt demonstration in front of the Yongsan garrison to demand withdrawal of the USFK and peaceful reunification.

   

 

Anti-US, anti-war and defending of peace

 

Aug.8- Yoon Gi-jin, chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of the Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification issued an appeal titled “Let us greet August 15 liberation day under the uplifted slogan of the anti-US and anti-war and withdrawal of the US forces in order to frustrate its moves for a nuclear war against the north.”

Aug.10- The People for Peace and Reunification, the People’s Action for the Revision of the Unjust SOFA and other civic organizations held 59^th anti-US solidarity rally in Seoul.

- The Committee for Implementing the June 15 joint declaration of Jeonam National University released a statement titled “Let us turn out in the powerful struggle for anti-US, anti-war and withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea.”

Aug.11- The South Korean Federation of University Student Councils made public a commentary titled “A criminal act of bringing about a war in conspiracy with the foreign forces” to denounce the US and south Korean war maniacs’ war move against north Korea.

-The Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan staged a Wednesday rally in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul to held proclamation ceremony of setting a peace week on the occasion of the 59^th national liberation day.
