Let us terminate disgraceful history of submitting to the US

The south Korea started dispatch of additional troops to Iraq despite strong opposition at home and abroad. August 3 was recorded in history another disgraceful submission to American.

The south Korean people have raised their indignation and denunciation.

A rally was held at Gwanghwamun, Seoul, to denounce the government and demand for withdrawal of troop dispatch under the sponsorship of the People’s Action against Troop Dispatch. Present there were members of civic organizations including the People’s Solidarity for National Independence, Democracy and the Rights of the People’s to Live, the People for Peace and Reunification, the Association to Support the Prisoners of Consciousness of the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy and the Reunification Vanguard of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification, executive members of the Democratic Labor Party and other people of various strata. The speakers said: “We are not defeated. The struggle is not finished,” “The struggle against the troop dispatch has entered the second stage” and “Let us vigorously wage the struggle for calling back our sons dispatched to Iraq!” They chanted slogans such as “For history of independence!”, “For national reunification!”, “Let us topple down the present government that enforced the troop dispatch!” and “Let us withdraw the troop dispatch through consistent struggle!”

After the rally more than 800 participants marched to the US embassy, breaking through the police blockade.

The Reunification Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and Peace of Korea issued a statement, denouncing the government for having enforced the troop dispatch to Iraq. The statement stressed that government’s attitude of submitting to the US can never be justified at a time when different countries of the world withdraw their troops despite the US pressure and when the Iraqis are intensifying their resistance. History will record today’s disgrace forever and punish it, it added.

The chairmen of the South Korean Federation of University Student Councils and the Seoul Area Federation of University Student Council in a statement respectively called for the break of the humiliating and subordinated south Korea-US alliance.

Meanwhile, Rep. Kwon Yong-ghil of the Democratic Labor Party and Rep. Kim Won-woong of the Uri Party and other lawmakers expressed their resentments to the government’s dispatch of troops to Iraq at the National Assembly building on August 4, asserting that they would check a bill on extending period of the dispatched troops at any cost.

The opposition of troop dispatch to Iraq is public feelings. It is the historical truth that any forces that neglect public feelings will surely be ruined.
