What is the main cause of reduction and relocation of the USFK

 

Recently, the United States decided to reduce its 12,500 troops in south Korea by the end of 2005. Then what is the reason?

The Chinese newspaper “Quanqiu Shibao” June 14 issue wrote as following.

The US has worrisome problem.

The US has maintained its military presence in south Korea after the Korean War. However, they are not welcomed by the south Korean people. Without touching upon all crimes committed by GIs in south Korea, even wrongdoings they committed in some years alone are enough to make the people shudder.

Firstly, the USFK have frequently committed rape, murder, theft, robbery and traffic accidents, thus causing public disorder.

Secondly, living environment is seriously damaged by discharge of toxic chemicals into rivers and pollute of lands by leaking oils from the US military bases.

Thirdly, south Korea burdens almost all of expense for the USFK and it arises more dissatisfaction of the south Korean people and the demand for the decrease of the burden is getting stronger.

Moreover, the south Korean people no loner think that the US military presence brings peace and inter-Korean reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula.

According to a recent survey, most of students admitted that the United States hamstrings reunification of Korea and it is hostile forces against Korea.

It is suggestive that many people find the cause of reduction and relocation of the USFK in the anti-American sentiments of south Korean people.
