Kim Jong Il¡¯s Juche-based view on arms

Arms are just power of a country and national sovereignty

It is leader Kim Jong Il¡¯s Juche-based view on arms that the arms are just national power for a country and nation.

Sovereignty is life of a country and nation. The sovereignty is guaranteed by the strong national power.

Military strength is just the power of a country. The power of the arms is just sovereignty of a country and dignity of a nation. It has been a general view that in evaluating a country¡¯s power more importance is given to the economic power than the military power.

The Juche-based view on arms is quite different from the general view. In a word, it gives more importance to the military power than the economic power and evaluates the power of a country with the military power as a key factor. Of course, the military power is not merely the physical power of arms. It is the power that has ideological and spiritual power of the arms and its physical capacity.

Leader Kim Jong Il said that a military power is the first power of the country in the struggle against the imperialism and for independence and socialism and, if the country overpowers the enemy in the military front, it can emerge victorious in all other fronts.

The struggle for people¡¯s independence and socialism is waged amid aggression and intervention of the imperialism. Therefore, it is needed that more importance is given to the development of defense power than economy.

The theory that arms are just a country¡¯s power and its national sovereignty is the summing up of the history of the Eastern and Western nations and the world socialist movement.

History gives lesson that a country¡¯s power is degenerated and the course of social progress is stagnated, if politicians weaken and neglect the arms. And if they fail to check aggression, plunder and domination moves of the imperialism, they will face defeat and ruin.

Now the imperialists become more outrageous. They make desperate efforts to dominate the world with their weapon, wielding the gun at random to those countries with weak military strength. We can see throughout the world that a country is ruined and people are reduced to a ruined nation because the country had weakened and neglected the arms.

But the world witnesses north Korea that defends independence and socialism and demonstrates dignity and prosperity of the nation by giving priority to the arms to reign over the imperialism headed by the US.

An anecdote

¡°The dog barks, the train goes on¡±

It happened at a place of the north Korea-US diplomatic talks some years ago.

The stand of the both sides is tense. The US side imposed threat upon north Korea, clamoring about the alleged sanctions. The situation of that time reached to extreme when the US moves to impose economic sanctions and strangle north Korea.

At the time, the head of the north Korean delegation stood to say, hitting the table.

¡°The dog barks, the train goes on.¡±

It is unfaltering declaration that north Korea will go on its own way no matter what the US says.

The US side was speechless with astonishment. The famous phrase ¡°The dog barks, the train goes on¡± is derived from the novel ¡°Gone away with wind¡± written by Margaret Michell, a US writer.

The Americans often mentioned it to demonstrate their cultural level.

The haughty Americans were dumbfounded by north Korea¡¯s promptitude of applying the famous phase as the supreme political terminology and rejected the US economic sanctions and threat as barking sound of a dog.

The courage and pluck of north Korea that it is advancing along the road it has chosen no matter what the US may say is originated from the might of its military power.
