The US is the wirepuller of the impeachment situation in south
Korea
The US was behind
the scene of the ¡°impeachment against the president¡± in south
Korea on March 12, which was branded as a ¡°national humiliation day¡± and ¡°black
Friday¡±.
It was a bloodless
political coup masterminded by the US behind the scene.
The legal inauguration
of the ¡°participatory government¡± supported by the anti-US independence forces for
the first time in south Korea through the 16th
presidential election in 2002, made the US feel intense fear.
So it took the
impeachment as the last resort.
To this end, it
worked hard, as the first step, to harass and stifle the ¡°participatory
government¡± until the latter goes away on its own accord.
The US had the south Korean conservative opposition parties slander the
¡°government¡±, confuse the political situation, introduce an independent counsel
to probe the slush funds collected by the Roh¡¯s camp
and aids during the last presidential election campaign.
It forced Lee Hui-chang, ex-chief of the Grand National Party, to declare
that he would go to jail assuming responsibility for all wrongdoings of the
GNP, so Roh Moo-hyun should
step down like him.
On the other hand,
the US invited Roh to America to impose a direct
pressure on him and let the Moody¡¯s Investors Service, the world credit rating
agency, to devaluate the credit rating of south Korea
by two grades.
Hardly pressed by
this, Roh said that he could not assume the
presidency and he would like to make an appeal to the confidence once again.
As the second step,
the US stirred up public opinion on the impeachment in a bid to put it into
practice in full scale.
Under the manipulation of the US, Hong
Sa-duk, assemblyman from the GNP, began to make
remarks on ¡°emergent measure¡± and ¡°important measure¡± since last summer, and at
the same time Cho Gap-je,
editor in chief of ¡°Wolgan Joson¡±, an
ultra-rightist conservative magazine, openly talked about the impeachment
against Roh calling for the unity of the GNP, the
outdated Millennium Democratic Party and the United Liberal Democrats. He also
said that Chough Soon-hyung, chairman of the MDP, would
be the presidential candidate after the impeachment.
And the ex-chairman
of the GNP, Choe Byong-yul,
raised clamor for an ¡°acting presidentship¡± after the
passage of the impeachment bill at the parliament.
Hubbard, US
ambassador to south Korea, gave detailed instructions
to Park Sang-cheon, the then chief of the MDP, on the
impeachment against Roh, last October, and met with Choe Byong-yul, on February 3
this year under the pretext of discussing the issues of additional troop
dispatch to Iraq and the relocation of the US troops in south Korea.
The third step was
to enforce the impeachment.
The US instigated
the opposition parties to take decisive impeachment action taking the issue of Roh¡¯s speech in support of the Uri Party, made at a press conference
on the occasion of the first anniversary of his presidency.
So the opposition
parties in collusion began the all-out ¡°impeachment¡± drive according the US
script.
Especially after
the passage of the impeachment bill at the parliament, the US directly
commanded the process, being reported on the impeachment situation in detail.
On March 13, it sent
its Secretary of Homeland Security to south Korea to
meet Prime Minister Koh Gun, who would take the presidentship, as a first foreign envoy, in a token of
formal recognition of the impeachment-ridden situation.
And it mobilized
its conservative institutes such as the Heritage International Economics
Institute and the International Monetary Institute to praise that it was the
first case to impeach the president in a democratic way according to the
constitutional procedure, it proved that south Korea was a strong democracy like
the US, and the impeachment against the president showed that the parliament had
also power.
The US media
continuously instigated the south Korean rightist
conservatives to the impeachment drive holding that the impeachment situation was
a ¡°confrontation of pro-Roh camp versus anti-Roh camp¡± and an ideological showdown.
It also backed the
impeachment with armed forces by more frantically staging the south Korea-US
joint military drills ¡°Foal Eagle¡± and the RSOI in south
Korea, and announcing the deployment of the up-to-date ¡°Aegis¡± destroyer in the
East Sea of Korea.
Facts are enough
to indicate with no doubt that the US was the wirepuller of the recent presidential
impeachment in south Korea.
The NDFSK
and the south Korean people will always remain
vigilant to the moves of the US and the conservative forces of this land and
never tolerate their plots.
