Statement of the NDFSK spokesman
The 17th general election was held on April 15.
In the elections held amid the fierce confrontation between the
democratic forces and the fascist forces, pro-reunification forces and divisive
forces and patriotic forces versus treacherous forces, the south Korean people
of all strata having resolute will to change old politics, frustrated the
intention of the conservative forces to hold majority seats at the National
Assembly and won overwhelming victory of the progressive reform forces.
This is a proud fruition produced by the south Korean people¡¯s
consciousness and bold advance to bring about a new independent society and a
reunified country by the concerted efforts of the people and a brilliant
victory of the historic June 15 south-north Joint Declaration.
Through the general elections the south
Korean people powerfully proved the victory of the people desirous of the new
by sternly punishing the bygone politicians who had reduced the 16th
National Assembly to the den of all sorts of irregularities and corruption and
national treachery.
At the general elections the national independence forces, the
pro-reunification forces, dealt a fatal blow to the traitorous and separatist
forces and sentenced the conservative forces who attempt to revive fascism and
maintain corrupt rule in this land.
Prior to the general elections, the conservative forces passed a impeachment motion against the president through the
parliament unprecedented in constitutional history to convert the political
situation unfavorable to them under the manipulation of the United States. They
changed their leadership when the impeachment motion produced unfavorable
result. And they resorted to every conceivable means, raising theories of
restraining the ruling party and ideological controversy and taking other means
of offensive.
The defeat of the pro-US conservative forces including the Grand
National Party in the general elections clearly shows again that the
treacherous party and political swindlers who are going against the people¡¯s
will can not evade stern judgment of history and those who run counter to the
times have no future.
It is the remarkable victory of the people in the anti-US
independence struggle to frustrate the US plot to prolong the pro-US parliament
in this land by manipulating the conservative forces.
The result of 17th general elections clearly proves that
the era passed for good when the US and the ultra-rightist conservative forces
of this land had reigned over the people and the NA is elected by the people.
However, our nation¡¯s struggle for the political reform is no more
than a beginning. To put an end to the old politics tainted by corruption and
crimes the progressive reform forces should unite to intensify the struggle
against the pro-American conservative forces to the end.
The south Korean people of all strata
should harden their victory gained in the general elections and further develop
it to vigorously wage the anti-US independent struggle for a new politics, new
system and life.
At present they should turn out in the struggle to nullify the
impeachment motion and foil even an attempt of the US and conservative forces
to fabricate another political coup on the excuse of the impeachment motion,
keeping close eye on them.
The NDFSK, together with the people of all strata, will
unyieldingly struggle to realize independence and democracy of society and
achieve independent reunification of the country by the concerted efforts of
the nation under the banner of June 15 joint declaration.
