New Year Message to the south Korean people
Dear people!
We are greeting the New Year
after seeing off a proud year of fierce struggle for independence, democracy
and reunification.
The Central Committee of the
National Democratic Front of South Korea, together with the patriotic vanguard
fighters, extends warm New Year greetings to the people from all social strata
including the workers, farmers, youth and students, intellectuals, religious
men, and the reunification patriots who are waging energetic struggles to
restore the national sovereignty, build a genuine democratic society and
achieve the country¡¯s reunification for the 70 million fellow countrymen.
Last year was a proud year when
the south Korean people achieved remarkable successes
in the national democratic movement.
The anti-US struggle for
independence was conducted vigorously and, therefore, the anti-US sentiment was
heightened unprecedentedly.
Greeting the last year with the
candlelight demonstration for the punishment of the GIs who killed two south Korean schoolgirls, the people further strengthened
the anti-US struggle on the occasion of the war-servant Rumsfeld¡¯s
visit to this land.

organized struggle with all-people character overcoming the limits of
dispersive and small scale and was conducted intensely and continuously on the
basis of correct slogans and various methods.

patriotic forces also waged ceaseless struggles for democracy, civil rights and
right to live, registering a great progress.
The people from different
social standings strongly waged struggles to dissolve the opposition Grand
National Party, the stronghold of anti-democracy and anti-reunification
right-wing conservative forces and a dumping place of corruption and
irregularities.
The patriotic reunification
organizations including the South Korean Federation of University Student
Councils have waged continuous struggles to abolish the ¡°National Security Law¡±
and legalize their organizations, and the people from every walk of life
including the workers and farmers have struggled for the right to live even in
foreign land.
Those resolute struggles drove
the right-wing conservatives including the GNP, which have made desperate
efforts to revive the dark era of the past military dictatorship, into a
juncture of ruin and warned the repressive authorities that have oppressed the
patriotic and democratic forces, labeling them as ¡°enemy-benefiting¡± and ¡°pro-north¡±
by the NSL.
Last year the independent
reunification struggle was further activated under the ideal of ¡°By our nation
it-self¡±.
Despite the vicious and
persistent moves of the US and its followers the patriotic reunification forces
successfully held national reunification meetings on the occasions of the 3rd
anniversary of publication of the June 15 joint declaration and August 15
Liberation Day and steadily strengthened the solidarity and unity between the
south and the north.
Thus, they strongly
demonstrated their firm will to realize the independent reunification upholding
the banner of the June 15 joint declaration.
The reunification heat stoked
by the north Korean reunification envoys in Daegu and
And many achievements of the
inter-Korean exchange and economic cooperation such as the reconnection of
roads and railways gave 70 million fellow countrymen a bright hope of
reunification.
All those gains in the movement
for independence, democracy and reunification are a brilliant fruition of the
ardent worship towards Marshall Kim Jong
Il and the ¡°Kim
Jong Il blast¡±.
The people¡¯s will to uphold and
follow the great Marshall as the lodestar of the grand national unity became
stronger and their determination to realize the Juche-based reform theory and
reunification policy put forward by the Marshall has become unchangeable.

with the grand march for independence, democracy and reunification last year,

every trick to monopolize the Nation Assembly through the upcoming general
election. If the south Korean people overlook it the
age of the repressive rule will be repeated like a nightmare in this land where
the GNP controls the political situation. And the people¡¯s life and civil
rights will be challenged and the June 15 reunification era will fade away.
The people from all social
strata should foil the frantic moves of the pro-US traitorous forces by an
all-out offensive.
They should continue exposing
the presidential election fund scandals of the GNP and hold the general
elections without the GNP, the party of thieves, Mafia and fascists, through a
struggle to disband it.
In order to realize democracy
in this land they should totally abolish the fascist laws such as the NSL and
dissolve the intriguing intelligence institutions that are still mobilized as
tools of oppressing the pro-reunification democratic forces.
They should sternly frustrate the
oppressive moves of the ultra-rightist conservatives against the
pro-reunification patriotic organizations including the South Korean Federation
of University Student Councils and the south headquarters of the National
Alliance for the Country¡¯s Reunification and realize the legalization of their
activities. Besides they should further activate the struggle for the right of
the ordinary people such as the workers and peasants to live.
The June 15 joint declaration
is a permanent milestone of the independent reunification and its earlier
implementation is a shortcut to the building of a reunified country.
On the basis of the successes
achieved in the reunification movement last year the south
Korean people should defend the ¡°By our nation itself¡¯ ideal to the last and
consistently conduct the works for the national unity, exchange and cooperation
and various reunification functions. Thus they should demonstrate the might of ¡°Our
nation-first spirit¡± under which the entire nation will be united, upholding
the sun of the reunification.

The key to carry out the immense
tasks of the national democratic movement this year lies on awakening and
organizing the people based on correct strategy and tactics.
The vanguard cores of the
popular movement should thoroughly arm the people of all walks of life, build
the mass organizations on the basis of Juche-oriented strategy and tactics,
realize the solidarity and unity between organizations and positively advance
slogans and methods of struggle the people can sympathize, thus conclude all
struggles with victory.
The struggle is arduous but the
victory is certain as long as there is Marshal Kim Jong Il, bright sun of the nation and peerless Songun general,
and 70 million fellow countrymen who follow him.
Let us achieve a signal victory
in the sacred struggle to bring earlier the independent, democratic and
reunified fatherland, looking up great Marshall Kim Jong Il, the lodestar of the grate national
