Songun politics, model of independent government

To live and develop in an independent way is the common desire and wish of every country and nation. Justice of mankind for independence can only be done by means of independent politics.

Songun politics of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is the one that defends and maintains the independence of the country and champions the independent demands and desire of the popular masses.

Songun politics enables the fundamental idea of independence to be firmly defended and realized.

The masses’ cause of independence is the one to put an end to domination and oppression, exploitation and plunder by imperialism and fully realize the independence of the country and the masses. But it is the last thing that comes true of its own accord. As it is accompanied by fierce confrontation with imperialism whose nature is aggression and plunder, domination and interference, it is inevitable that the cause of independence requires the politics which can outdo the “power policy” of imperialism.

Korea’s Songun politics is based on such requirement.

Songun politics, which puts the army as the main force in driving the cause of independence, make it possible to reliably defend the independent demands and interests of the masses, and guarantee the sovereignty and dignity of the country against all kinds of aggression maneuvers by the imperialists.

In the whole process of the over 80-year-long Korean revolution, Songun has been the almighty sword for the Korean people to invariably uphold the banner of independence and advance, overcoming manifold hardships and trials. But for its own strong military capabilities, Korea’s sovereignty would already have been infringed upon. The country, which had been eclipsed from the world map due to Japan’s military occupation (1905-1945), is now displaying its might as the bulwark of independence that no force dares to attack. This is attributable to Songun politics.

The politics makes it possible to achieve independence of the country and the popular masses will come true only when it is provided with the internal force of revolution in direct charge of its implementation.

What is essential in building up the internal force is the problem on the driving force. The driving force of revolution must be on the basis of correct analysis of the position and role, revolutionary spirit, sense of organizational and combat capability of different classes and strata in the revolution and construction, in view of the developing reality.

Korea has given precedence to the army as the driving force of revolution as it is stronger than any other classes and strata of the society in revolutionary spirit, sense of organization and combat capability.

Today the Korean People’s Army is firmly defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country and the nation with arms against the formidable imperialist army that pretends to be the “only superpower” in the world. It makes a breakthrough in difficult fields of the economic construction under the slogan “Let us undertake both the national defense and the socialist construction!”

Thanks to the army’s leading role, the motive force of the Korean revolution has been remarkably strengthened. This has led to the development of the people’s cause of independence onto a new high stage.

Songun politics reliably ensures the victorious advance of the cause of independence by adhering to and applying the principle of independence.

Internal strong power is prerequisite to the principle of independence in the struggle for consummation of the cause of independence. Without internal strong military capability, the sovereignty and dignity of any country will be mercilessly infringed upon in the present world where the jungle law prevails, to say nothing of the principle of independence in politics. If internal military capacity is strong, it is unnecessary to read another’s face and worry about being overpowered by another.

Songun politics of Korea regards the safeguard of the country’s sovereignty and dignity as the most important matter in defending the supreme interests of the country and the basic interests of the revolution, and makes it possible to uncompromisingly deal with any attempt to infringe on its sovereignty and dignity.

The present reality of the world in which several countries and nations weak in defense power are suffering humiliation and trampled down by foreign forces, clearly proves that Songun politics of Korea is the model of independent government.
