Briefs on south Koreans’ struggle against the US and war

-A civic organization held a rally in front of the US military base in Dongducheon, Gyonggi Province, on October 28 to demand punishment of GIs and compensation.

Saying that it was 15 years since a south Korean woman named Yun Gum-ee was killed by a US soldier, the speakers at the rally expressed their resentment that the murder, arson and plunder are rampant where the US troops station.

They denounced the GIs for having set fire to a beauty parlor in Dongducheon last May.

However, the US military side declines to punish criminals and the south Korean authorities suppress families of victims and members of civic organization who demand truth of the case, they said.

Saying that misfortune and suffering of the south Koreans by the US troops must be exterminated, they demanded the US and south Korean authorities punish those criminals and compensate to the victims.

-The People for Peace and Reunification held the 73^rd rally for peace and disarmament in Seoul on October 29, disclosing the deceptive nature of the moves to transfer the right to control the wartime operations.

The speakers at the rally referred to the fact that the commander of the US air force in south Korea would have right to command the combined air space center which the US and south Korean authorities agreed to set up.
