Formation of the Solidarity for the Progress in south Korea

 

The Solidarity for the Progress in south Korea involving civic organization and political parties was inaugurated in Seoul on September 16.

The program and statute of the organization stipulates that to achieve the independent reunification of the Korean Peninsula by implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration under the banner of ¡°By our nation itself¡±, win the sovereignty of the nation, protect the right of the people to existence and stand against the US policy for colonial domination and neo-liberal ¡°globalization.¡±  

The inaugural ceremony was held in Seoul with the participation of 5,000 people from all walks of life.

The speakers at the ceremony called upon all the people including workers, peasants, youths and students, women, intellectuals and religionists to dynamically struggle for people¡¯s liberation and reunification by joining the solidarity, an umbrella body for the progressive people¡¯s movement.

An inaugural declaration was read out at the ceremony.

The declaration stressed the need to hasten national reunification through overall unity of the people, saying that the organization is formed by ardent desire of the people.

A rally against the conclusion of the south Korea-US Free Trade Agreement, the abolition of part-time jobs, the withdrawal of the US forces from south Korea and the abolition of the National Security Law was held following the inaugural ceremony.

They staged a demonstration, chanting slogan such as ¡°Let us achieve people¡¯s liberation through great unity of the people!¡± and ¡°Let us bring earlier the independent reunification through great unity of the people!¡±
