Stubborn struggle for independence against the US and pullout of US troops from south Korea

 

The south Korean people are intensifying the struggle against the US and war.

More than 4,000 students from across south Korea waged an anti-war demonstration for peace in Seoul on June 3. The students held placards, banners and balloons depicting peace against war and chanted slogans such as ¡°No to the extension of the south Korean army dispatched to Iraq!¡± and ¡°No to the conclusion of the FTA!¡± They distributed printed materials to the citizens.

They called for the south Korean people to turn out in the struggle to build a peaceful society. They stressed that the students will struggle for peace on the Korean Peninsula, holding that making the Korean Peninsula without war is the will of students.

A south Korean civic organization demanding renegotiation for purification of environmental contamination of the returned US military bases issued a statement to denounce the US that returned the US military bases without cleansing the environmental contamination.

Referring to the fact that the return of nine US military bases including the bomb range in Maehyang-ri was completed, the statement strongly denounced that the US did not take step to purify the environmental contamination in the bases and delivered them to south Korea to impose expenses for purification upon the south Korean people.

The Democratic Labor Party in a statement condemned the US that delivered the military bases polluted by gasoline, carcinogenic substance and heavy metal to south Korea.

The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base and members of the Japanese peace movement organization held a joint rally criticizing the war maneuvers of the US in front of the US military base in Yongsan on May 27.

The members of the All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base at the rally censured that the US troops drove out residents of Pyeongtaek to expand their military base.

The members of the Japanese peace movement organization exposed that the US is going to deploy a nuclear-powered carrier in the US military base in Yokoska, Kanagawa Prefecture, clinging to military alliance with Japan. They said that they will check the US attempt to deploy the nuclear-powered carrier as the residents in Pyeongtaek did and intensify the struggle to prevent war moves of the US in solidarity with the civic organizations of south Korea.

The participants in the rally censured the war maneuvers of the US, carrying printed materials denouncing the US arrogant stance on the expense for US troop¡¯s upkeep and reconstruction of environment of the US military bases, expansion of the US military base in Pyeongtaek and criminal acts of the US army.
