Stubborn
struggle for independence against the US and pullout of US troops from south Korea
The south
Korean people are intensifying the struggle against the US and war.
More than
4,000 students from across south Korea waged an
anti-war demonstration for peace in Seoul on June 3.
The students held placards, banners and balloons depicting peace against war
and chanted slogans such as ¡°No to the extension of the south Korean army dispatched
to Iraq!¡± and ¡°No to the conclusion of the FTA!¡± They distributed printed
materials to the citizens.
They called
for the south Korean people to turn out in the struggle to build a peaceful
society. They stressed that the students will struggle for peace on the Korean Peninsula, holding
that making the Korean Peninsula without war
is the will of students.
A south
Korean civic organization demanding renegotiation for purification of
environmental contamination of the returned US military
bases issued a statement to denounce the US that
returned the US military
bases without cleansing the environmental contamination.
Referring to
the fact that the return of nine US military bases including the bomb range in
Maehyang-ri was completed, the statement strongly denounced that the US did not
take step to purify the environmental contamination in the bases and delivered
them to south Korea to impose expenses for purification upon the south Korean
people.
The
Democratic Labor Party in a statement condemned the US that
delivered the military bases polluted by gasoline, carcinogenic substance and
heavy metal to south Korea.
The
All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base
and members of the Japanese peace movement organization held a joint rally
criticizing the war maneuvers of the US in front of
the US military
base in Yongsan on May 27.
The members
of the All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US
Military Base at the rally censured that the US troops drove
out residents of Pyeongtaek to expand their military base.
The members
of the Japanese peace movement organization exposed that the US is going to
deploy a nuclear-powered carrier in the US military
base in Yokoska, Kanagawa Prefecture, clinging to
military alliance with Japan. They said
that they will check the US attempt to
deploy the nuclear-powered carrier as the residents in Pyeongtaek did and
intensify the struggle to prevent war moves of the US in
solidarity with the civic organizations of south Korea.
The participants in the rally
censured the war maneuvers of the US, carrying printed materials denouncing the
US arrogant stance on the expense for US troop¡¯s upkeep and reconstruction of environment
of the US military bases, expansion of the US military base in Pyeongtaek and
criminal acts of the US army.
