Statement of the AINDF spokesman

Today the south Korean people mark the 25^th anniversary of the arson of the American Cultural Center in Busan at the time when the entire Korean nation turn out in the struggle to carry out the three tasks of attaching importance to the nation, maintaining peace and achieving unity for opening a heyday of Korea’s reunification.

On this day, the south Korean people reconfirm their will to regain national dignity and sovereignty by putting to an end to the disgraceful 60-odd-year-long US colonial domination and occupation.

The south Korean youth and students occupied the American Cultural Center in Busan, a center of disseminating the pro-US subordinative idea and a major base of ideological and cultural domination of the US, to set fire, scattering leaflets written “US, go home!” “We denounce neo-colonialism of the US!”, thus rocked south Korean and the world.

The struggle of south Korean youth and students is eruption of wrath against the Yankee aggressors that turned Gwangju into the sea of blood by wirepulling the south Korean military troops to mercilessly quell the Gwangju popular uprising. It also is a just struggle to demonstrate the invincible will of the south Korean people not to tolerate the US colonial rule any longer. The struggle dealt a heavy blow to the US and the pro-US forces and opened a new phase of the anti-US struggle.  

After the arson of the American Cultural Center in Busan, the south Koreans’ anti-US independent consciousness got intensified, the south Korean people conducted mass anti-US struggle while burning the Stars and Stripes stained with aggression, murder and plunder burnt across south Korea and south Korea turned to a the land of anti-US struggle.

The south Koreans have waged strenuous struggle to put an end to the US colonial domination and hasten democratization of south Korea and reunification of the country for 25 years, holding high the banner of anti-US independence despite the harsh suppression of the pro-US forces.  

However, the desire of the south Korean youth and students have not yet been realized.

Today the US evades responsibility of unprecedented crime it committed in Gwangju and commits rape, plunder and violence across south Korea, inflicting national disgrace, misfortune and pains upon the south Korean people.

The US, which hampers Korea’s reunification, makes desperate efforts to check the anti-US independent reunification movement intensifying in south Korea under the idea of the “By our nation itself” and turn the June 15 era back to the confrontation era in the past. It massively reinforces every kind of strategic and tactical nukes and modern war equipment in and around the Korean Peninsula and conducts large-scale military exercises against north Korea, driving the situation to brink of war.      

In particular, it makes frantic efforts to form the pro-US regime by designating its favorite candidate in the presidential elections to be held in December to hamper the independent reunification movement and progressive reform of the south Korean people and save the crisis of its colonial rule.

The traitorous Grand National Party of south Korea schemes to make this land a permanent colony of the US by retaking the power in collusion with the pro-US conservatives under the back of the US. 

If the GNP takes power through the presidential elections, the dark age of the military fascist dictatorship would be revived, “the second Gwangju incident” be reproduced, the June 15 era be evaporated and the entire Korean nation suffer from nuclear holocaust.

The current situation urgently demands the south Koreans to turn out in the anti-US struggle for independence and against the GNP with the spirit they did in the past.

The south Koreans should put an end to the US colonial domination and interference into the domestic affairs of south Korea and intensify the struggle against the US and war holding higher the banner of the independent struggle against the US.  

The struggle for the withdrawal of the US troops from south Korean and the struggle against the expansion of the US military base in Pyeongtaek across south Korea should be intensified and a nationwide struggle against the FTA be turned the struggle against the US.

The progressive forces and the June 15 forces should deal a fatal blow to the GNP’s ambition to fabricate the pro-US fascist regime by taking the power and maintain the June 15 era by forming the anti-conservative great alliance as soon as possible.

The AINDF, together with the south Korean people who value dignity and sovereignty of the nation, will hasten the day of a new independent society and national reunification by intensifying the struggle against the US, war and the Grand National Party.
