South Korean people’s vigorous struggle for independence and

reunification against the US with full of confidence in victory

The south Korean people from different social standings who saw off the year 2006 adorned with the intensified struggle for independence, democracy and reunification, turned out in the New Year’s struggle with the resolve to make the year 2007 an epochal year to put an end to the showdown with the US and open wider the June 15 era of independence and reunification.

Here are some documents released by the progressive pro-reunification organizations in south Korea.

The Solidarity for Realizing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration made public an appeal under the title “Let us terminate forever the shameful history of subordination and division by the all-out offensive of independence, democracy and reunification”.

 The appeal noted that north Korea demonstrated last year a powerful political and military might to overwhelm the US styling itself as an emperor of the world, therefore the structure of the north Korea-US showdown drastically changed and the situation of the Korean Peninsula turned quite favorably for our nation.

It continued;

“We’re now on the crossroad of war and peace, subordination and reunification, fascist dictatorship and progressive reform.

The fate of the Korean Peninsula will be greatly changed according to the outcome of this year’s struggle.

The US and the pro-US conservatives caught in a quandary are running amuck nowadays.

The decisive showdown will predominate over the situation of 2007.

Let us channel all efforts to the anti-US anti-war struggle and drive the US troops out of south Korea and achieve victory in the historical showdown with the US.

The all-out anti-US offensive of our nation is driving the US to a tight corner.

The US policy to dominate the Korean Peninsula faces bankruptcy and an advantageous situation is opened before us to put an end to the humiliating history of the US colonial domination.

No one on earth can match our nation.

The US, though boasting itself as the only superpower, is no more than a paper tiger before our nation.

Let us make the year 2007 a decisive turning year for expelling the US troops by intensifying the all-out anti-US offensive!

The US troop’s pullout is the pivotal aim of the all-out anti-US offensive.

Without US troops pullout independence, democracy and reunification cannot be realized

Let the progressive forces become the vanguard of the struggle to expel the US troops!

Let the whole people focus all the anti-US struggles on the US troops pullout and terminate the shameful history of the US occupation through the all-people struggle!

Let us mobilize all the strength for the victory in the presidential elections of this year!

The presidential elections are a critical watershed in the general anti-US offensive.

The US is desperately moving to help the pro-US conservatives take power in a bid to save its proxy regime from collapsing. And it is dreaming another Korean war by electing the pro-US belligerent regime.

Winning the presidential election means a peaceful reunification and losing it a war.

Those who desire independence and peace and love the nation, unite as one for the victory in the presidential elections!

Let us direct all efforts to the struggle against the Grand National Party and resolutely smash the US moves for a new war!

Let us conduct the presidential elections in 2007 with the victory of progressive reform forces by firmly uniting in the joint front for peace against war and the GNP!

The June 15 peace and reunification forces and the democratic reform forces, provide a decisive guarantee for victory in the upcoming presidential election by forming a grand united front against conservatism!

Let us initiatively prepare for the great event of the national reunification!

Very bright is the prospect of the reunification movement of 2007 though the confrontation between our nation and the US still gets fiercer.

Let us turn out as one in the reunification movement upholding the banner of June 15 to realize the national reunification at an early date!

The greatest heyday in the 5,000 year-long history of the nation is before us.

Let us create a great history of victory through the nationwide anti-US offensive in 2007 of epochal turn!”

The south HQ of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification issued a resolution headlined “Let us greet the dawn of independent reunification with the pride of ‘Our Nation is the Best’!”.

The resolution stated that our nation faces this year an important task to terminate the US policy of colonial plunder, deal a decisive blow to the anti-reunification forces including the GNP and arrange the springboard of independent reunification.

It stressed as follows.

“First, the south HQ of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification will make every effort to wind up the showdown between our nation and the US with victory.

Second, we will determinedly frustrate the moves of the GNP and anti-reunification forces hell-bent on reviving the past military dictatorial era.

Third, we will make the spirit of our-nation-first our faith and routine of life.

We will firmly believe in the independent desire and might of our nation and more valiantly conduct the struggle against the US and the GNP.”

In the meantime, the south Korean people from different social standings are waging the anti-US struggle more vigorously.

The civic organizations including the south HQ of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification, the All-People Measure Committee to Check the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek and the Reunification Plaza and the residents in Daechuri and Doduri in Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province, held the 855^th candlelight rally in Daechuri on January 3 against the expansion of the US military base.

On January 12 the All-People Measure Committee to Check the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek called a press conference in front of the Defense Ministry and published a press release entitled “Suspend sweepingly the project of the US military base expansion funded by the taxes squeezed from the people”.

The press release emphasized that they would vigorously conduct the struggle for the renegotiation on the US military base expansion.

The south HQ of the National Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification, the preparatory committee of the 15^th term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils, the Youth and Students Solidarity for Realizing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration, the People for Peace and Reunification, religious women of Hyangrin Church, the National Council of Women Student Representatives and others demanded the withdrawal of the US troops who committed a sexual outrage on a woman in her sixties.

The struggle of the south Korean people for independent reunification against the US will be intensified in 2007.
