Inauguration ceremony of the preparatory committee of the

South Korean Progressive Alliance and a rally to declare the struggle of 2007

The preparatory committee of the South Korean Progressive Alliance, a permanent solidarity organization of the progressive camp in south Korea was formed on January 9.

That day the inauguration ceremony of the preparatory committee and a rally to declare the struggle of 2007 were held in Seoul.

The preparatory committee of the South Korean Progressive Alliance groups 22 progressive organizations and parties including the Reunification Solidarity, the People’s Solidarity for National Independence, Democracy and People’s Right to Live, the National Alliance for Democracy and Reunification, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the National Federation of Peasants Associations and the Democratic Labor Party.

Therefore the effort to build a unified solidarity body of the south Korean progressive forces which have commenced from the second half of 2005 is set in full swing.

At the meeting representatives of different organizations made speech and the declaration on formation of the preparatory committee of the South Korean Progressive Alliance was published.

The declaration stated that the south Korean progressive camp would start a grand march for the victory of the people in building a new society through the general unity and vigorous solidarity struggle.

It also stressed that the progressive forces in south Korea would form the South Korean Progressive Alliance, realize unity and dynamically conduct the struggle in order to raise its capability of struggle and social influence and give a hope to the people.

The declaration indicated that the people from different social standings would wage a joint struggle against neo-liberalist globalization and for peace against the US and war and for democracy, beyond the solidarity struggle for the right to live.

The building of the South Korean Progressive Alliance would proceed in connection with the struggle against the south Korea-US free trade agreement, the declaration noted.

The participants in the meeting shouted such slogans as “Let’s achieve the people's victory through the overall unity of the progressive camp!”, “Let’s check the south Korea-US free trade agreement through the overall unity of the progressive camp!”
