Anti-Americanism grow

This year, too, the people showed a strong tendency towards independence against the US throughout south Korea.

They turned out in the campaign against the transfer of the US military base in Yongsan to Pyeongtaek.

Members of the Paengsong town action committee against the expansion of the US military base held a ceremony near the US military base in Pyeongtaek, before launching a tractor tour.

At an event to mark the 500^th day of candlelit demonstration held in the playground of Taechu Primary School in Paengsong town, residents in the Pyeongtaek are and members of civic organizations called upon all the south Koreans to wrap up the campaign to foil the expansion of the US military base, holding the candlelight, in response to the messages of solidarity from various organizations in foreign countries including Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines and Italy.

What drew special attention were the publication of the Pyeongtaek peace declaration by the members of the Democratic Labor Party and the statements by the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for the Country’s Reunification, the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils and the uninterrupted campaigns to defend Pyeongtaek.

A dynamic campaign was also launched against the south Korea-US Free Trade Agreement forced by the Americans.

People asserted that the US is not a friend but the sworn enemy of the Tangun nation and the systematic destroyer of south Korean society through a campaign for probing the truth behind the killings of civilians committed by US troops during the Korean War, the campaigns joint war rehearsals including Rimpac-2006 and Ulji Focus Lens, a protest action to disclose the pollution in US military bases and a campaign against negotiations on the sharing of US military upkeep.

In the course of embodying the idea of “By our nation itself,” the kernel of the June 15 Joint Declaration, the south Koreans realized that the north Koreans are of the same stock and fought courageously against the anti-north Korea policy of the US and its allies.

The South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for the Country’s Reunification, the Anti-US Women’s Association, the Reunification Solidarity, the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils and National People’s Solidarity disclosed that the financial sanctions, additional sanctions and human rights offensive that the US is carrying on, talking about the collapse of north Korea, are geared to stifle north Korea, reduce the Korean nation to its slaves and turn the Korean territory into a source of its wealth and called on all the people to launch campaigns against the US policy hostile towards north Korea and against the US plot and form a pan-national solidarity front for the withdrawal of the US troops, the root cause of misfortune on this land.
