= Struggle for implementing the June 15 inter-Korean joint declaration

May.10~11- The conference of student representatives from the south and the north of Korea for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration was held at Mt. Geumgang resort.

May.12- The south side delegation that participated in the conference of student representatives from the south and the north of Korea for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration had a news conference at a park in Seoul.

=Anti-US and anti-war struggle

May.4- The People’s Movement Headquarters for the Withdrawal of the US Troops released a commentary censuring subservient behaviour of the Ministry of Defence to extend the US military base in Pyeongtaek.

- The US-based Internet homepage “Minjok Tongshin” carried its editor’s article denouncing the south Korean authorities’ suppression of the people against the expansion of the military base in Pyeongtaek.

May.6- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek and the Paengseong Town Measure Committee for Opposing the Expansion of the US Military Base had a news conference at a hall in Daechu-ri, Paengseong Township, Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province condemning the Defense Ministry and the police authorities for their indiscriminate suppression to expropriate the land.

- The south Korean Federation of University Student Councils issued a statement titled “Stop indiscriminate arrest at once and police and military police leave Pyeongtaek immediately.”

May.8- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek composed of more than 130 political and civic organizations held an emergency meeting on the situation in Pyeongtaek at the conference hall of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions in Seoul.  

- Activists of civic organizations including the Seoul Council of Measures against the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek held a candlelight vigil in front of the head office of Dong-A Ilbo in Seoul.

May.9- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek issued a commentary urging the government to release those arrested in the struggle against the expansion of the US military base in Pyeongtaek.

- The Presidium of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification made public a statement titled “Let us defend Pyeongtaek for the sake of the independence, peace and future of the nation.”

- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US military base in Pyeongtaek issued a statement to denounce the Ministry of Defense for its crackdown and the conservative media for its false report.

=Anti-Japanese struggle

May.3- Civic organizations including the Lawyers for Democratic Society, the National Council of Professors for Democracy, the People’s Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, the Peace Network, the Women for Peace and the Korean Council for the Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan made public a joint statement denouncing Japan’s attempt for overseas invasion.

=Struggle for democracy and the right to live

-May.3- South Korean dissidents held a meeting in Seoul and called for forming a unitary front body of the national democratic movement camp.

- The south Korean Committee for Asian Joint Action against the US and Japanese imperialists’ Aggression and Domination in Asia issued a statement to denounce the US and Japan for scheming to strengthen their military alliance.

May.4- The Seoul Area Federation of the University Student Councils under the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils released a statement titled "Cancel the unjust punishment for Professor Kang Jeong-gu at once."   Let us abolish the National Security law running counter to the June 15 era.”

-The Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration issued a commentary censuring the sex scandal of a lawmaker from the Grand National Party.  

May.5- The National Council of Female Student Representatives and the Student Solidarity for the May 31 Local Election issued a joint statement denouncing the corrupt Grand National Party.

May.6- Hwang Yoo-seok, chairman of the National Reunification Committee of the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils released an appeal calling for the students to take the lead in movement for national reunification.

May.10- The All-People Measure Committee for Checking the Expansion of the US Military Base in Pyeongtaek issued a statement denouncing the unjustness of the setting up of the “protection district for military facilities.”
