Long Way of Love for Soldiers

This is well-known that leader Kim Jong Il, has paid continual visits to the military units. According to the data, he gave on-the-spot guidance to 1137 units of military units from 1995 to 2002.

His long way of Songun is shining brilliantly as the Supreme Commander's love for his soldiers.

It is unprecedented in history.

Steep pass on Mt Osong

Mt. Osong is situated in the middle of the Korean Peninsula. It is approximately 1000 meters high and has 151 curves to climb up. It soars high in the forefront near the Military Demarcation Line which runs across the Korean peninsula. The path runs along a steep cliff where a false step would cost the climber’s life.

When the KPA Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il said he would climb the mountain, the officials dissuaded him. The pass was not only steep but many parts of the road had been washed away as it was a rainy season. The officials therefore said if he had to climb it nevertheless, he should do so after the road was repaired.

How sorry the soldiers would feel to know that he turned back having come as far as here,” the Supreme Commander said. "You're dissuading me because of the bad weather. But I can understand better how my men are living only by traveling a rugged path on a rainy day like this.”

So the field car started moving up the steep pass. Dark clouds gathered and it rained in torrents, and the road became worse every moment. Then after moving up for a while, a tire of the car hit a sharp stone on the road and punctured with a bang. The tire was changed but the new one too met the same fate at the breast of the mountain. After changing the tire again, the car moved up the pass inch by inch. Then it suddenly began to skid down at a precipice. At the crucial moment, he immediately jumped out the car to shoulder its body, and other accompanying officials followed him. The car narrowly escaped the danger. At last the car arrived at the forward command post on the top of the height.

With bright, smiles on his face, he warmly embraced, the front-line soldiers at Mt. Osong. His clothes were wet and the bottoms of his trousers were muddy. The officers and men shed tears as they unexpectedly met him at the top of a steep mountain in a foul weather whom they thought of even in their dreams.

"Oh, Supreme Commander, You are visiting our post in the worst weather which even our parents did not dare to visit in a fine weather!..." This was their inmost thought.

It was not the way anybody could go. It was the one that only Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il who has the warmest love for soldiers could go. Mt. Osong which was previously unknown became the well-known legendary mountain that tells his ardent love for soldiers.

Visit to Cho islet through Rough storms

It was a sulky day. Huge waves rose very high- surging upon the seashore. A speed boat anchored at a pier was trembling through the storms as if it would be capsized.

At that time, Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il came to the pier to visit tile soldiers at Cho Islet on the open sea far from the land. The officials blocked his way, saying that he could never go on a speed boat in such a stormy weather.

But he solemnly said that he had to go there al all costs, for the solders on the islet were waiting for him. He was so determined that nobody could dissuade him any further.

So the speed boat with him on board left for Cho Islet in the teeth of raging storm.

When the speed boat arrived at the pier of the islet, he was the first to get off. He looked like a father who wanted to see his beloved children as soon as possible.

The officers and men of the unit on the islet were moved to tears, looking at him with his clothes soaked with sea water before throwing themselves into his arms.

To them who were concerned about his safely he said that he was all right and that the suite needed help to get off the boat. They suffered severely from the rough storm.

They lost their balance and didn't move a step. Then the leader put a foot on the linking foothold to help the officials safely get off the boat, taking them by the hand one by one.

He, with a smile said he thought his ribs were inverted as the high waves fiercely rolled the boat.

It was really a miracle that the speed boat safely arrived at the islet in such a foul weather. It was the miracle performed by the great love of Supreme Commander Kim Jong Il for soldiers, the love of the Supreme Commander who would not hesitate to do anything for them and go through any difficulties or risks to visit his men. So the people who have difficulty in understanding why the KPA soldiers shout from the bottom of their hearts the slogan, "Defend Kim Jong Il with our lives!", and why they would devote their lives for him without hesitation need to know the touching legendary stories of love for soldiers, stories which fill every page of his long journey of Songun.

It is the Korean People's Army which has formed a harmonious whole between the Supreme Commander and the soldiers on the basis of the same ideology and love, and the strongest community united with the common destiny.
