Kim Jong Il, statesman who loves the people  

The political idea of Kim Jong Il who has human love as his natural endowment regards the people as God. All his thinking and activities as a statesman start from here and pervade through his politics. The purpose of politics is to materialize the love for the people and the patriotism and start of the revolution comes from ardent love for and confidence in the people. This is his immutable view.

 The fact that the leader has enriched Songun politics for the first time in the history of world politics and firmly defended socialism in north Korea shows clearly what a noble height his love for the people has attained. He regards it as his supreme mission to defend the people-centered socialism which the people consider as their life and lifeblood. But for his Songun politics, the north Koreans might have been turned into slaves of imperialism and their dignity and independence had been trampled upon cruelly. It is not accidental that the world public highly praises north Korea’s victories in the battle for the defense of socialism as the greatest historic achievement that can be made only by a statesman who has love for the people.

Thanks to his intense love for the people north Korea could maintain as ever the universal free medical care system, universal free educational system and other popular policies peculiar to it for the last decade when it had to undergo the “Arduous March” and forced march.

The leader embodies his political idea manifestly in his leadership of the Party and the state. He sees it that the state is built up into a people-centered state which absolutely love the people and that the Party becomes the mother Party looking after the people with the utmost care just as a mother does for her children. He also makes sure that when a policy or a line is mapped out, the people’s intentions are fully reflected in it and that their interests are defended.

He advanced slogans “Let the whole Party go among the masses!” and “We serve the people!” with a view to make the officials of the party, administrative and economic organs and government bodies true servants and messengers of the people.

His revolutionary leadership and political activities are run through with his warm love and devotion for the people.

Answering the questions raised by the Itar-Tass News Agency of Russia a few years ago, he said, “As for my hobby, what I like best is to go among people and soldiers and spend my time with them. I can say my greatest worth and joy are to study how our people and soldiers live and work, look after them, mix and chat with them and share good times and bad with them.” As compared with his devoted love for the people, these words are too modest.

His leadership with on-the-spot guidance as the main method has reached all places of north Korea including remote mountain villages and out-of-the-way islets. He goes everywhere the people live regardless of weather and rough seas. Summer or autumn holidays many foreign heads of state regard as a convention have nothing to do with him. On the contrary, he ceaselessly visits the people for firsthand guidance on Sundays, national holidays and even his birthday. Wherever he goes, he pays deep attention not only to the production results and management of factories and enterprises but also to the living and working conditions of the working people. He pays attention to everything related to the people’s livelihood including the temperature and humidity of working places, the drinking water of the workers and farmers, firewood, heating, and even salt and cosmetics.

Who will not follow and support a leader who works so devotedly for them as he does?

Therefore, his politics is always successful.

For scores of years the Korean people have keenly felt the paternal love and devotion of the leader. And in this course, they have a philosophy of life of entrusting him with their destiny and future, and become united around him with one mind and one purpose in following and upholding him.

Herein lies the source of the might of the single-hearted unity which is more powerful than nuclear weapons and with which the leader and the people united into one to defend socialism, their idea, for the last decade in the teeth of the intensive pressure and sanctions of the combined forces of ferocious imperialism.
