Kim Il Sung, founder and eternal President of socialist Korea

  The Korean people who were militarily robbed of their country by Japanese imperialism early in the last century were forced to live in colonial slavery for more than four decades. The colonial rule of Japanese imperialism was without precedent in history. The Japanese not only prohibited the Koreans from using their national language but also forced them to discard their names and adopt Japanese names.

When the Korean people stood at the crossroads of life and death, President Kim Il Sung held high the banner of national liberation.

Setting out on a revolutionary road in his teens, he authored the Juche idea that occupies a special place in the history of human thought, and organized and conducted the anti-Japanese armed struggle under its banner. He founded the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army (the present Korean People’s Army) founded by him waged an arduous aimed struggle, thus finally defeating the Japanese aggression army in August 1945 and accomplishing the historic cause of Korea ’s liberation. This meant the rebirth of the Korean nation.

Therefore., the Korean people looked up to him, praising him as the sun of the nation, a legendary hero and the benefactor of national resurrection.

After national liberation he founded the Workers’ Party of Korea and then established the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He had since led the north Korean people for nearly fifty years as the leader of the WPK and head of state of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

During the whole period of his leadership he adhered to the Juche idea as his guideline. The idea still serves as the only guiding idea of the WPK and the DPRK because it means that the popular masses are masters of the revolution and construction and that they have the strength to propel the revolution and construction. It serves as an outstanding theory that most correctly illumines the way ahead of man and the popular masses to hew out their destiny. The Songun idea and politics of the leader Kim Jong Il that are praised as an omnipotent sword for the accomplishment of the cause of socialism at present are rooted in the Juche idea. The might and vitality of the Juche idea have been clearly proved in the reality of north Korea. So it wins wide sympathy from the international community, and its believers increase in number day after day.

President Kim Il Sung not only founded the eternal guiding idea of the Korean revolution but also laid the lasting foundations of socialist Korea. Under his intelligent leadership the anti-imperialist, anti-feudal democratic revolution, the socialist revolution and multi-stage socialist construction have been carried out with success in north Korea in a short time. This resulted in the establishment of the unique socialist system centered on the people and the building of a great socialist power which is politically independent, economically self-sufficient and self-reliant in national defense.

Above all, the President laid the solid political foundations of north Korea. Thanks to his benevolent politics, the unity and cohesion of the leader, the Party and the people which constitute the social and political basis of north Korea have been achieved, and the whole society has been turned into a large harmonious family. In north Korea today, the integral whole of the leader, the Party, the army and the people has been attained and the solid socio-political foundations which no force can destroy have been laid. This is entirely due to the basis of the single-hearted unity of the whole society achieved in the era of the President.

Deeply realizing the importance of economic independence, the President advanced the line of building an independent national economy and wisely led the efforts to carry it out, thereby laving the firm groundwork for an independent socialist economy. Its huge potentialities can be clearly perceived from the fact that north Korea succeeded in orbiting the satellite “Gwangmyongsong 1” at one go in 1998 entirely on its own.

The President regarded it as a matter of primary importance related to the destiny of the country and the people to increase the power of national defense, and ensured that primary efforts were made to strengthen the army and develop the defense industry. As a. result, the KPA has grown up into a revolutionary army firmly prepared not only politically and ideologically but also in military and technological aspects, and into a strong army equipped with powerful means of offence and defense. If north Korea had not made every effort to beef up her defense capabilities on the principle of giving prominence to military affairs, it would not have won its three-year war early in the 1950s against the United States that boasted of being the “most powerful” in the world. Because north Korea has steadily consolidated her self-reliant defense capacity, she has been able to shatter each the incessant military challenges of the US for scores of years since the war and vigorously advance along the road of socialism. Relying on this mighty defense capacity, north Korea has further augmented her war deterrent power in the Songun era of leader Kim Jong Il. But for the war deterrent power, the Korean Peninsula would have already suffered the horrors of war again due to America's reckless policy of hostility to north Korea.

Indeed the political, economic and military foundations cemented by the President can be named treasures and assets for the eternal prosperity of the country which enable north Korea to go from victory to victory.

In his lifetime the President put forward the three charters of national reunification and developed the national reunification movement into a pan-national movement, thus opening the avenue to accomplishing the cause of reunification by the united efforts of the whole nation. And he put forth independence, peace and friendship as the main idea of the foreign policy of north Korea. And on this basis, he expanded and developed the external relations of the country and saw that the international prestige of the Republic was highly enhanced.

Because the President worked hard all his life for the independence and prosperity of the country and the welfare of the people, denying himself rest and sleep and rendering lasting services to the country and the people, the Korean people reverentially look up to him as ever as “fatherly leader,” “father of socialist Korea” and “eternal President.”

The future of socialist Korea is firmly guaranteed by the leader who remains faithful to the cause of the President. By his unique Songun politics he smashes the vehement offensive of America to squash north Korea, and victoriously leads the struggle of the north Korean people to build a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.
