people of great Songun motherland on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the
publication of the North–South Joint Declaration.
Now the Korean people live in the June 15 reunification era.
The June 15 reunification era is a new era of independent reunification in which mistrust and confrontation between the north and south of Korea was evaporated and reconciliation and cooperation have been accelerated in the Korean Peninsula.
The June 15 reunification era advances vigorously by the Korean people’s strong will for achieving reunification and resolute struggle under the wise leadership of the great sun.
True to reunification milestone of new century
A portrait of leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun of the 21st century and lodestar of Korea ’s reunification, is hung on the wall of my office in Barcelona, Spain. And a photo of the “The Monument to the Three Charters of the National Reunification,” demonstrating the reunification volition of the Korean people, is also hung.
The leader’s august image of Kim Jong Il with wisdom of illumining the justice and truth and his strong will of freedom and prosperity and the photo of the monument to the Three Charters of the National Reunification portraying the two women of the north and south of Korea holding up the Three Charters of the National Reunification, this shows the Korean people’s unwavering will and jubilation to realize reunification without fail under the leadership of the great sun.
With milestone of Korea ’s reunification in the 21st century put forward by the great sun of reunification, the June 15 reunification era, which is welcomed by the world people, is opened in the Korean Peninsula.
Unfortunately, the Korean people live split into the north and the south. Why? It is attributable to US imperialist, the arch enemy of the world. US imperialist, which occupied south Korea 60 years ago, has intensified the colonial rule over south Korea and ruthlessly suppressed reunification movement of the Korean people. Furthermore, it has desperately run amuck to strangle north Korea and ignite war against it for over half a century.
President Kim Il Sung, father of socialist Korea and legendary great man of the 20th century, performed great contributions to reunify the country. The President set forth the Three Principles of National Reunification, the proposal of founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the Ten-Point Program of the Great Unity of the Whole Nation for the Reunification of the Country. Thus he evolved the great programs for the Korea ’s reunification and vigorously led the nationwide struggle for independent and peaceful reunification of the country.
Owing to the obstructive moves of US imperialism, the enemy of justice and peace, Korea ’s reunification remain as an unfinished task of the 20th century. The tragedy of the Korean nation, the only division tragedy of the world, can not continue even in the 21st century.
A definite decision of a great leader is requested. Leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun in the 21st century, undertook it.
Leader Kim Jong Il, who safeguards security and peace of the Korean Peninsula by foiling the nuclear war moves of US imperialism and defended the Korean nation’s dignity, sovereignty and destiny with might of Songun, expressed his far-reaching intention and iron will to reunify the country true to behests of President Kim Il Sung on Mt. Paektu, the sacred mountain of revolution in 2000. The leader made resolute decision to open a turning point of reunification by holding north-south summit meeting.
The north-south summit meeting was held in Pyongyang in June 2000 and the historic North South Joint Declaration was published by tireless efforts of the leader.
Having talks with the south Korean President more than 10 occasions, the leader said that the eyes of the world and the Korean nation are centered on the summit meeting and it is better to produce big present, a declarative document, encouraging the Korean nation with optimism about future of national reunification in the new millennium,. He saw to it that the inter-Korean joint declaration was published which clarified the issues of national independence to solve the question of the country’s reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it, recognizing that the low-level federation proposed by the north and the commonwealth system proposed by the south for the reunification of the country have similarity and work together for the reunification in this direction in the future, the exchange of visiting groups of separated families and relatives and the issue of unconverted long-term prisoners the both sides had concerned, cooperation and holding of an authority-to-authority negotiation.
The first article “The north and the south agreed to solve the question of the country’s reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation responsible for it” is the core of the joint declaration and it is a main idea of the joint declaration.
This article was not included in the south Korea ’s proposal.
The first article of the declaration reflected leader Kim Jong Il’s reunification idea and national independent idea.
The publication of the June 15 joint declaration, that shocked the entire Korean nation and the world, is a brilliant result of leader Kim Jong Il’s wise leadership and patriotism.
“The south and north of Korea admirably opened the first stage of independence by publishing the joint declaration. It is enough to demonstrate potential ability of Kim Jong Il, chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission,” the south Korean “KBS” commented.
It is a just assessment of exploits performed by leader Kim Jong Il for reunification who produced the historic North-South Joint Declaration.
The joint declaration is of great importance in carving out the destiny of the Korean nation. It is a national independent declaration to have the Korean people solve the issue of country’s reunification independently by the concerted efforts of the Korean nation, a reunification-oriented declaration that makes the entire Korean nation wage reunification movement to victory and a milestone of Korea’s reunification in the sense that it is a declaration of great national unity to make the same brethren of the north and the south promote trust and realize reconciliation. It also has historic significance for the cause of global independence.
The unflinching milestone of Korea ’s reunification is warmly hailed by the Korean people and other world progressive humankind.
The Korean people have opened the June 15 reunification era under the banner of the joint declaration, a reunification milestone of the new century set forth by leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun and have accelerated vigorous advance for 5 years.

Korean nation itself”
It is a great fortune for me to mark the fifth anniversary of the publication of the North-South Joint Declaration with the Korean people in Pyongyang, my second motherland.
I visited north Korea many times since June 2002. As I feel whenever I visited the DPRK, the Korean people’s ardent feeling for reunification and their efforts to reunify the country have been increasing. The atmosphere of Pyongyang that will mark the fifth anniversary of the publication of the North-South Joint Declaration is full of zeal for reunification. Dialogue, cooperation and exchange in different fields are activated and Pyongyang is busy with preparation for various functions to mark the fifth anniversary.
Tens of thousands of people in Gwangju waged intense anti-US, anti-war struggle and struggle for withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea on May 15 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Gwangju Popular Uprising, calling for independence, democracy and reunification.
Though there have been complications owing to vicious obstruction and interference of the US, dialogue, contacts, exchange and cooperation between the north and south of Korea are accelerated in political, economic, cultural and military fields and in this course a wide avenue for reconciliation, unity and reunification is opened. The number of north and south Korean visitors surpassed 102,000 as of April this year except the south Koreans who toured Mt. Kumgang resort.
With publication of the June 15 joint declaration, movement of the Korean nation for reunification is intensified. It is natural that Korea's reunification can be promoted by the driving force. As the powerful driving force of the Korean people is provided, the June 15 reunification era is dynamically progressing.
Korea ’s driving force is provided by the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il. The single-hearted unity of the leader, the Party, the army and the people rallied around the leader with the Korean People’s Army as its core and north Korea’s might, that even the US styling itself as the only super power in the world dares not attack north Korea, while threatening it with “preemptive strike,” “economic sanctions” and military operational plans, are the main force of Korea’s reunification.
Thanks to the main force, the Korean people in the north, south and abroad undauntedly accelerate the reunification movement with idea of “By our nation itself” and under the banner of the three forms of cooperation for national independence, peace against war and patriotism for reunification, braving manifold difficulties created by the US and its followers. An inaugural ceremony of the preparatory committee for joint functions of Koreans in the north, the south and abroad took place in Mt. Kumgang resort in March this year to implement the June 15 joint declaration.
It declared that the preparatory committee is a permanent nationwide solidarity organization of the reunification movement which composed of political parties, organizations and public figures of all circles in the north, the south and abroad, the first of its kind ever since the division of Korea. It called upon the Korean people to protect independence and peace and create a new history of unity and reunification with concerted efforts of the Korean nation.
Thanks to the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il, the past anti-north Korea and pro-US sentiment of the south Korean people changed radically into the anti-US and pro-north Korea sentiment. The anti-US and anti-war struggle including the struggle for withdrawing the US troops from south Korea are main stream of the south Korean people’s struggle.
According to a survey conducted by a south Korean civic organization, 71 percent of respondents said that the US is a big obstacle that creates crisis on the Korean Peninsula and hampers the process of Korea ’s Reunification. Meanwhile, the south Korean people regard north Korea ’s plan of nuclear weapon as nuclear deterrent force of the entire Korean nation and they are optimistic about peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula, feeling proud of north Korea ’s declaration of possessing nuke as pride of the Korean nation.
The Korean people are vigorously intensifying the independent reunification struggle in the June 15 reunification era to make this year a year of independent reunification and a year of withdrawing the US troops from south Korea.
The world progressives are dynamically waging solidarity campaign and the anti-US and anti-war struggle in keeping pace with the Korean people’s reunification movement. Recently, the European Union and many other western countries are developing friendly relations with north Korea and supporting peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula. The struggle of the progressive humankind for global independence and peace is being accelerated, keeping step with the Korean people’s struggle for independent reunification against the US under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration. And it greatly affect in making favorable international climate for Korea ’s reunification.
It is my greatest happiness to follow leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun, with boundless reverence for him. It is my first obligation to support and propagate the Songun politics of leader Kim Jong Il and advocate his leadership for Korea ’s reunification in practice. I named myself Zo Sun Il that stands for one Korea and make every endeavor to strengthen support and solidarity activity for Korea ’s reunification.
The Korean Friendship Association consisting of more than 3,800 members of 99 counties with regional branches in 12 countries additionally opened “One Korea Network” Homepage in February this year, conducting solidarity activities for Korea ’s reunification. About 150,000 or 400,000 people visit the Homepage a day on the average and it will contribute to Korea ’s reunification to a certain extent, I think. I visited Pyongyang with members of the association last year to participate the International March for Korea’s Peace and Reunification and, expressed my warm solidarity to Korea’s reunification, denounced reckless war moves of US imperialism against north Korea and strongly demanded withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea, marching to Panmunjom.
The realization of independent and peaceful reunification of Korea led by leader Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun, is a unanimous desire and hope of the world progressive people.
By enhancing its role, the Korean Friendship Association will positively conduct support and solidarity activity for the Korean people’s struggle for implementing the June 15 inter-Korean joint declaration.
Leader Kim Jong Il is, indeed, pioneer, defender and wise leader of the June 15 reunification era.
Led by Kim Jong Il, sun of the great Songun, the June 15 reunification era will advance and fireworks will be fired in the sky of the Korean Peninsula and world in the foreseeable future.
