Statement of the NDFSK Central Committee

The Central Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea issued a statement Saturday.

The statement reads.

The north Korean government declared in its Jan. 10 statement its withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty so as to cope with the grave situation where the sovereignty and security of the nation are seriously threatened by the US vicious hostile policy to stifle the north.

This is a deserved countermeasure to Washington¡¯s wicked hostile policy and unjustifiable moves of the International Atomic Energy Agency serving the United States and a natural self-defensive step to safeguard the sovereignty, existence and dignity of the nation.

As is known to the world, the Bush group has listed north Korea as part of ¡°an axis of evil¡± and a target of preemptive nuclear strike, thus breaking the foundations of the joint statement and the Agreed Framework between north Korea and the United States. Worse still, it has even made a declaration of a nuclear war in Korea.

When peace and security are disturbed and the situation is strained to the extreme in Korea, Pyongyang proposed to Washington to conclude a non-aggression treaty and exercised its maximum patience and self-restraint to solve the nuclear issue peacefully through dialogue with the US.

But Washington answered Pyongyang¡¯s patience with the stop of heavy oil supply and an ultimatum of abetting its servant IAEA to adopt a special resolution and declare that if Pyongyang does not accept it, the issue will be brought to the UN Security Council for sanctions.

It is a never-to-be-condoned brigandish act to disarm north Korea and destroy its system.

The Central Committee of the National Democratic Front of South Korea highly appreciates and fully supports north Korea¡¯s withdrawal from NPT as an open exercise of its right to safeguard the existence and sovereignty of the country and a patriotic step for peace and security of the country.

North Korea¡¯s withdrawal from NPT is entirely attributable to Washington¡¯s hawkish policy and the unfair deed of the IAEA in favor of the United States.

North Korea has no reason to continue to remain bound to this international body, now that the United States mobilizes even the organization to internationalize the US moves to stifle north Korea and even the last possibility of peaceful solution of the nuclear issue has disappeared.

The United States and the IAEA can never escape from the responsibility for having made north Korea leave NPT by turning down its sincere efforts for the peaceful solution of the nuclear issue through negotiations.

Washington must stop the hostile policy and nuclear threat upon north Korea and respond affirmatively to Pyongyang¡¯s proposal for a non-aggression treaty.

The IAEA should discontinue serving the United States and approach to international issues fairly.

There can be no distinction between the south and the north in the struggle to defend the existence and sovereignty of the nation.

The ultra rightist conservatives of south Korea should refrain from rash acts of bringing disaster and calamity to the nation in favor of the United States.

All the south Korean patriotic people should resolutely turn out against the US nuclear threat in cooperation with the north Korean brethren who took the heroic and daring resolution to safeguard the existence and sovereignty of the nation and secure peace of the country.

If Washington takes any sanction or blockade or invasion on the north, they should launch a nationwide anti-US resistance to frustrate the moves.

The NDFSK, together with all people, will hold high the great proposition of ¡°By our nation itself¡±, render positive support to north Korea¡¯s resolute withdrawal from the treaty and launch a patriotic struggle to give an ignominious defeat to the Yankee aggressors with the concerted efforts of the nation.
